As part of your GP training in Bexley VTS, you’ll need to complete OOH shifts. These shifts are a crucial component of your training, providing you with hands-on experience in handling urgent cases and offering continuity of care when usual services are closed.
About Out-Of-Hours (OOH)
When and how many OOH shift are mandatory during the training
During your ST1-2 GP Placement years you are expected to shadow at least one OOH session.
As an ST3 you will be required to cover 6 sessions of OOH shadowing
How to apply for OOH
Email Susan or Sue on the emails provided and you will receive a list of available timings. Respond back to book a date and time that is suitable for you.
Where will the OOH shifts be
As part of Bexley VTS your OOH shifts will be in Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup.
What to Expect in OOH Shifts
During OOH shifts, you’ll work in a setting that is often busier than a typical GP practice, where the types of cases vary widely. You’ll be responsible for assessing and treating acute medical issues that arise outside of normal practice hours, helping you develop skills in decision-making, managing emergencies, and time efficiency.
