Hospital Sites under Bexley VTS Scheme

Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich

For the majority of hospital jobs, GP trainees are placed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, which is in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. 

This is a district general hospital with 500 beds. 

Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford

Trainees can be placed here acute and community paediatric rotations. DVH is a hospital in North Kent, easily accessible from Bexley and surrounding areas. It is a district general hospital with 480 beds. 

Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup

Based in Sidcup in South East London, this acute district general hospital has just over 400 beds. 

HOSPITAL ROTATIONS

Acute Medicine

Obstetrics and Gynaecology

General Medicine

A 6 month rotation working at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich (QEH.) Time is split between various acute medical wards and the ambulatory care unit. On calls primarily involve being on the acute medical take, with registrar or consultant led supervision. A great placement to gain experience of managing a variety of acute and chronic medical presentations.


General Medicine

General Medicine

A 4-month rotation at QEH  working on general medical or elderly care wards. On calls include medical ward cover, helping on the acute medical take and being actively involved in the cardiac arrest team. This is a great opportunity to learn from  senior medical professionals in their area of expertise.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology

A 4 month rotation at QEH working across the labour ward,  post-natal ward, Fetal Assessment Unit and gynaecology, as part of the O&G team. Various learning opportunities are offered in the form of independent assessments, inpatient exposure and assisting in clinical procedures.

A 4 month placement based on the inpatient unit at either QEH or Darent Valley Hospital Dartford (DVH.) There are a wide range of opportunities to gain clinical exposure to children of all ages, through shifts in the Special Care Baby Unit, A&E and outpatient clinics.



Psychiatry

A 4 month rotation working at either QEH or Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup covering the inpatient units, which may include general or old age psychiatry. This placement will also offer chances to learn about how community mental health services are provided in the region of Bexley. 

A&E

A 4 month rotation at QEH working at one of the most dynamic and culturally diverse emergency departments in London. This placement aims to provide a rich exposure to all medical conditions commonly and less frequently seen in clinical practice. You will be working closely with specialities from all over the hospital, including O&G, general surgery, paediatrics and general medicine.


Ophthalmology and MSK

Ophthalmology and MSK

This is a 4 month placement spent between outpatient clinics in ophthalmology and rheumatology. There is no night time or weekend requirement!


ITP Placements

Ophthalmology and MSK

Integrated training posts linked to the GP rotation in ST1/2. These placements are diverse and include rotations in public health, sexual health, acute/community paediatrics and palliative care.
