You might have heard a lot in the news about certain aspects of sustainability. It encompasses a wide range of things such as climate change, carbon footprints, lifestyle changes to name just a few and we look forward to showing you what you can do to help!
Below you see some of the ways we are trying to tackle climate change as a VTS and the steps we are taking to protect our planet.
A Year of Green Success!
As we look back on the past year, we're proud to reflect on the strides we've made towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly approach to our healthcare practice. Our commitment to combating climate change and promoting greener healthcare in the NHS has never been stronger. Here are some of the highlights from our journey.
Hello, we are the sustainability reps Bexley GP VTS! We first wanted to introduce ourselves and why we were passionate to represent and highlight this important topic throughout your training.
Nahima:
"I first took interest in making a difference to the environment we work in during my first job as a doctor in hospital placements. I saw how much recyclable
wastage we were disposing of incorrectly mainly due to the lack of recycling bins available. I worked with the sustainability team to provide hospital wide recycling bins and posters to make it clear what could/couldn’t be recycled (you would be surprised this wasn’t always obvious!). I’m looking forward to learning about new aspects of sustainability such as sustainable nutrition as I love food!"
Reefy:
"Hello everyone! I'm Reefy, and I'm thrilled to join Nahima as your sustainability representative this year. My journey into sustainability started from a personal awakening about the responsibility we have of our planet and the need for proactive environmental change. I became deeply concerned about the environmental footprint of our daily choices, especially in the healthcare sector. The vast amounts of energy consumption, single-use medical supplies, and the indirect impact of healthcare practices on community health through environmental degradation deeply motivated me to take up this role. I believe that we have a unique responsibility not just to our patients but also to the environment that sustains us all "
