GP training is a 3 year programme, consisting of one year in secondary care posts and one year comprising 6 months GP pure and 6 months ITP (Innovative Training Posts). The final year is spent in a GP placement. Each week, trainees have a Wednesday afternoon dedicated to teaching sessions. In Bexley, these are held at the Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup, and they are a great way to catch up with peers and engage in interesting learning topics.
During the 3 years, trainees have to undertake two exams, the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) and the Simulated Consultation Assessment (SCA).
Alongside exams, trainees to have to maintain an online E-portfolio found on fourteenfish.com, undertaking workplace-based assessments, and regular reflections on their daily practice aiming towards a yearly ARCP similar to the foundation years.
